Key themes of CES 2020

Date
08 January 2020

CES 2020 explores the latest innovations in Tech, AI, IoT, Robotics, Consumer Electronics and much more. More than buzzwords, CES 2020 is home to the latest ideas and developments that will truly change the way we live.

From expert panel discussions where senior AI researchers and investors have discussed IoT and anticipatory technology, to trying the latest 100% plant based Impossible burger 2.0 it’s all at CES 2020. Here, you’ll find the leading companies and products disrupting the digital and tech landscape and given the opportunity to meet and discuss their products, their challenges and the market.

Key Themes of CES 2020

  • The fundamental importance of 5G networks for almost all anticipated extensions of current technologies (and to enable the development of the next generation of future products and technologies). From eSports to OTT Streaming to Autonomous Vehicles to integrated Smart Home solutions, for the anticipated benefits of these services to truly be possible a reliable ubiquitous 5G network is required. A number of panelists were cautiously optimistic about the availability of such a network in 2020 although others highlighted the fact that this had been expected in 2019 and the expected 5G rollout never quite materialized.
  • When analyzing data to understand ROI in increasingly digital or digital first environments, there is often very little standardization. Different solutions / platforms produce different metrics so it has been difficult for brands to easily understand their potential ROI in the digital ecosystem. Traditional metrics such as ‘total views’ are less helpful as they do not dig deep enough and help us to understand levels of user engagement (and are often measured differently for different platforms i.e. on YouTube and Twitch). This has meant that many brands are yet to become truly comfortable spending on development and marketing in digital first environments such as eSports. With an increase in understanding, data conformity and data quality a huge increase in brand engagement and monetization of digital and digital first environments could be on the horizon.
  • Developments in technology and AI should remain human centric and should constantly consider the user, their needs and whether they are protected. Too often those who understand the maths don’t understand the person. There has been broad panel consensus that as products and technologies evolve, it is increasingly important to focus on a human centric approach to development and outcome. This is important for the success of a product with human users but is equally if not more important from the perspective of developing socially responsible and safe technology.
