The European Commission recently unveiled an Artificial Intelligence (AI) proposal with the aim of setting a ‘global gold standard’ for rules in this cutting-edge sector. Bird & Bird’s International Regulatory & Public Affairs team organized a webinar to give a practical perspective on the new compliance obligations that will apply to developers of AI and users, as well as importers of AI systems.
Feyo Sickinghe, who acted as a moderator, kicked off with an introduction of the Artificial Intelligence Act. Katharine Stephens followed with an overview of the proposal and discussed, among other things, prohibited AI systems, high-risk systems, conformity assessments, transparency requirements, and regulatory oversight. Shima Abbady presented on the interaction with GDPR and data-related regulations. The webinar concluded with a Q&A session between Feyo and Francine Cunningham addressing contentious issues and open questions.
Feyo commented: “The entire webinar was moderated in interview style, resulting in a very interactive session with many questions from the attendees. If you want a webinar to be interactive resulting in almost all attendees staying until the very end, this is the way to go. We are confident that this webinar has raised the firm’s profile as a thought leader in digital regulation and that it will contribute to meaningful client engagements and new business opportunities.“
